Welcome
St George’s Crypt began in 1930 as a volunteer-led organisation and much of our work would not be possible without the support of volunteers. Today, volunteers play a crucial role, working with homeless people, providing essential administrative support, raising crucial funds or simply serving meals.
Volunteering and Placement roles at St George’s Crypt
Each year we involve 100 volunteers in different areas across the Crypt. Volunteers are involved in the office, in the Social Care Centre, in the Warehouse, hostels, Charity Shop and the kitchen.

One off events
At the Crypt we often have events that require volunteers for one or two days or maybe a week or so, this includes Harvest (the whole of September), the Christmas Fayre and also Summer Fayre. During the year we have fundraising events in which volunteers are called upon these include collections, dinner dance evenings and fashion shows.

Victoria Grimes & Tara Wilson
We first approached St. Georges Crypt for a PR placement to support our studies at Leeds Metropolitan University. We have had not only a great placement opportunity but an unforgettable life experience.
Working for a homeless, vulnerable and disadvantaged person’s charity lets you see first hand the dedicated work behind the scenes that helps to provide support and services for their many clients. This experience has opened our eyes to their complex work that can be so challenging but hugely rewarding.
