Prove it

Thank you for delving into this tab. We feel it is one of the most important places within our web site. It allows us the opportunity to offer information as facts and figures appertaining to all areas of our work. We believe in openness and clarity and that’s only fair when the general public donate to our work on a daily basis. We can honestly publish our outcomes and statistics in order for you to see just how much is going on within St George's Crypt as a whole charity. If you struggle understanding some of the information below please call us and we will be pleased to explain. It may also help us to word it differently.

Training and Engagement   November 2011

46 service users  accessed the dental advice service and this  highlighted that we need  specialist help for those  who have a phobia of dentists ~ as a result we have now referred 4 people to the Special Dental Service, who are able to treat them.

16 service users benefited from the foot fixing service provided by the volunteers from Crossgates Therapy service. This specialist chiropody service enables us to identify, treat and monitor a wide variety of foot problems.

31 service users have enjoyed the cooking sessions and have been learning knife skills, pastry making and baking this month.

23 service users accessed the Leeds Council advice point for help with benefits and housing issues.

20 service users were considerably less stressed following hand massage which offers a chance to relax and chat in a calming environment.

Urban Sprawl demonstrated their many talents with a performance of songs, (including one written by them) in the Assisi café at lunchtime. This generated further interest in the project and 34 service users have been involved in music and drama during the month, with many of them contributing to the Monday evening sessions at Multiple Choice

35 residents from Faith Lodge and the Crypt enjoyed a fantastic Bonfire themed evening in the Assisi café. We are grateful to Sam Crane and Georgette who performed a vocal set during the evening, which was suggested and organised by our Monday evening volunteers. We rounded the evening off with a firework display in the garden.

We now have the services of a specialist physiotherapist who will be here weekly. She saw 7 service users and treated a range of problems from back, neck and shoulder injuries to replacing dressings.

The guitar group has continued to be a success with an average of 8 service users per session learning chords, song composition and improvisation. (67 in the month)

Congratulations to Georgette who has now got through to the semi finals of the Open Mic competition at Dewsbury Town Hall on 11th December ~ this will be filmed by Sky television. If successful Georgette will travel to the final at the o2 arena in London.

We welcome Ian Ramsden to the The Training and Engagement side of St George's Crypt. He has had a team of residents and people that we have successfully moved on helping out by collecting and delivering food, PAT Testing, decorating reception at The Crypt and taking out a commercial  kitchen. Those that have been part of this have thoroughly enjoyed themselves and have learnt new skills.

Overnight Service

St George's Crypt's Overnight Service accommodated 549 inidivduals, in our 12 funded bed spaces, from April 2010 - March 2011

Of these 549 - 457 were successfully helped into further suitable accommodation.  However, 92 of our residents could not be helped.  Some of the reasons for this are: refusing suitable accommodation, breach of alcohol/drug/smoking rules, verbal and or physical abuse of other residents or staff or just abandoning the service.

This demonstrates that we have successfully helped 83.2% of our customers onto secure accommodation.

Over the same period we had available 3 compassionate bedspaces each night, a total of 1,095 for the year, for vulnerable people who have no recourse to any public funding.

As part of the Severe Weather Protocol last winter St George's Crypt made available 6 extra bed spaces per night from the end of Novemeber 2010, the first snow falls, to the end of February 2011.  Within this period there was a small period where the Protocol was withdrawn by LCC.

Assisi Café - Meals - August

During November, we served 540 breakfasts for our residents.

A total 1450 weekday lunchtime meals have been prepared and served to customers.

We also provided 540 evening meals.

320 weekend lunches were provided.

Total: 2850 meals provided.

The Cafe also is utilised by Simon on the Streets to hold a breakfast meeting with mutual customers each Thursday morning.

Nurture – Food

Nurture continues to be busy with outside catering.  The word is spreading about Nurture now and the excellent work we do. There is a continuous flow of people through looking for education – progression – moving on. We are very excited about the new opening of the first Nurture Cafe. It is at Oxford Place Methodist Church in Leeds. Please call in if you find yourself in Leeds Christmas shopping Monday to Friday

Nurture – Horticulture

Things are slowing down now for the winter but, as you horticulturists know, there are still lots of things to do in the Gardens to get ready for spring! The garden at St George's Crypt was entered for the Leeds in Bloom award and in October the horticulture team was presented with second place. This is a big achievement considering how much work had to be done. From a building site to a prise winning garden in a year!!

Regent Terrace

Regent Terrace is currently intensively supporting 10 men with serious alcohol dependencies. We are seeing some amazing breakthroughs with residents being able to mend broken relationships with family members.

Faith Lodge

Faith Lodge is full and they also have a waiting list. This is a special place were men who want to abstain from alcohol and drugs can do so in a calm and safe environment.
