Our News about the “2012” - Jane Tomlinson Run for All Leeds 10k
Last year we had 42 people enter the Leeds 10k which was amazing for our first time. This year we want to make it bigger and better ! To encourage more people to join our St George’s Crypt Team we’re offering a £4 discount on the £26 entry fee to everyone who registers with us.
Everyone wears Crypt T Shirts on the day – and we’ll be having a BBQ straight afterwards to help people celebrate and recover – although last year it ended out being an indoor one !
If you want to join in send a completed entry form with a cheque for £22 directly to us at St. George's Crypt.

Students from Leeds Metropolitan University with absolutely no budget to work with are helping to organise a fashion show in aid of St George’s Crypt, Leeds on Saturday 3 March (7pm) at St George’s Church Centre, Leeds.
Crypt clients will join students as “models” at the show, wearing garments from the Crypt’s Charity Shops in Armley and Oakwood. Organisers also hope to have some local Leeds businesses supporting the event.
Summer Robinson, one of the students involved in the organisation, said today: “We aim to raise money and generate awareness for St George’s Crypt, a charity that has been working with the homeless for over 80 years, through help from local companies in Leeds.”
She added: “It’s a chance to see a fashion show that has a different style and a hint of competition between charity and boutique.”
Lead fundraiser at the Crypt, Cheryl Harrington, said today: “It’s really encouraging to see these young people giving up their time to support the Crypt. We hope that it will be a fun evening as well as drawing attention to some of the great fashion items which are donated to our two charity shops.”
Last Saturday, 8 October 2011, the first ever Crypt Music Festival happend at a really cool and unusual venue, grade 1 listed building under renovation - Temple Works in Holbeck Leeds.

12 bands played from 2pm to 11pm in the old loading bay
The Riatines, an excellent young band who were recently Centre Stage Finalists, opened the show followed by Dean and Bob from Biscuithead and the Biscuit Badgers, Kog Moorcroft, the Retrolettes, all who had their own unique fun style.
Rock band Inlaze took the roof off almost literally and The Runaway Truth strummed their guitars at an amazing speed. Matthew Harrington and his band Montez gave an amazing acoustic performance after travelling up from London that morning.
We were blown away by the beautiful sounds of NEVE whilst Real Women gave a sassy cover performance of It’s Raining Men and had their own private dancer strutting her stuff.
James from The Mexanines, Centre Stage winners this year who played at Leeds Festival, came along despite his band member being ill and as a last minute deal – Mike Heaton from Embrace played drums for him.
and the fabulous Catfish and the Bottlemen came all the way from Llandudno and gave an tremendous performance to close the show.
DJ’s Andrew “Casper” Ashdown and his “Surely Bassy” crew came to play sets all day in the Joiners Bar with some fantastic graphics showing on the wall behind them. They were joined for a short time by two local DJ’s, Stefan Groove, and Tim H,
Raftery The Poet delighted the audience with a couple of pieces of performance poetry in between some of the acts
In the middle of all this we had Bazzman, the X Factor Bootcamp auditionee, who came along to give us a fine rendition of House of the Rising Sun, and play his charity Christmas song for us, 50% of the proceeds of which come to the Crypt.
We had tombola stall, guess the weight of the huge cabbage & pumpkin, and a cake stall looked after by three gorgeous ladies dressed up in fairytale costumes. Shake a holic came to along with his milkshakes and donated all his profits on the day to the Crypt.
The rain fell all day which didn’t help the numbers – but it wouldn’t have been a proper festival without it.
Huge thanks to all 54 volunteers who turned up and did very long shifts on the day.
Mark Chettleburgh, Facilities Manager at Telereal Trillium in Sheffield contacted us to tell us abou their fundraising event.
Each year Telereal Trillium arrange a charity bike ride and this year we're cycling from Warrington to Liverpool via Southport on 9/9/11
Our colleague Adele Goodall recently arranged for us to undertake a day’s volunteering at St Georges Crypt so when we were considering charity options for this year it became an obvious choice for one of our teams.
On Friday 24th June 2011, the Irish Centre played host to our 80's night fundraiser.
St Georges Crypt had an 80's disco and local band ‘GunLaw’ performed an fantastic gig for free. Tara and Bryn McMillan, the organisers, were dressed as Madonna and Michael Jackson. Lots of flourescent leg wamers and rar rar skirts were to be seen, with an Umpalumpa, Smurf, Ska Girl, Don Johnson and many more.
£800 was raised on the night by ticket sales, raffle tickets, stand up bingo and a tombola. Well done !

The 5th Run for All Leeds 10k was held this Sunday 19th June 2011.
The weather was awful, raining by the bucketload as we arrived at the Crypt very early in the morning to welcome our runners in for a coffee and a team photo, before they headed off to Millenium Square for the warm up at 8:15am.
While our 40 fabulous people were hard at the run, we prepared a feast for their return - an indoor barbecue, due to the weather.
All the runners were met with a bar of chocolate - donated by Asda, and a towel to get them dry.
We would like to say a huge thank you to eveyone who ran in support of St George's Crypt: Ian, Carol, Kathryn, Pervaz, Kate, Robert B, Edward, James, Mary, Caroline, Gareth, Hannah, Mark, Terry J, Matthew, Damian, Leon, Robert P, David, Sylvia, Julie R, Christine, Julie S, Scott S, Rachel, Glenn, Helen, Terry T, Adam, Scott W, Jamie, Fiona, Sarah B, Urmar, Laura, Stella, Veena, Nicky, Kamran, Sarah W.
