The St George’s Crypt’s Nurture team are celebrating this week after they were awarded a five star rating from ‘Scores on the Doors’ (www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk), the national food hygiene rating scheme, for the second successive year.
The ‘Scores on the Doors’ scheme provides a star rating for certain types of catering business and for retailers handling or preparing open high-risk foods.
The star rating each business receives is based on a food hygiene inspection carried out by the local authority. 5 stars means Excellent whilst 0 stars is Very Poor.
The Nurture Team look after the kitchens at the Crypt and engage with client trainees who are ready to enter the workplace at their own pace until their confidence and skills are built to a level they feel allows them to go into mainstream work. They are mentored and pastorally supported in order to fulfil their own potential.
The Crypt’s Kitchen Coordinator, Damian Parkinson, said today: “All the client trainees have worked really hard to keep our rating at five stars. For everything they do they deserve this.”
“We bring the clients in to the kitchens to give them skills like cooking, cleaning and to give themselves self-respect for when they are ready to go into full-time employment.”
He added: “We might not be a five star restaurant but our clients deserve a five star meal!”
