Crypt win two awards

St George’s Crypt, Leeds are celebrating this week after winning ‘Best Altered Building’ and ‘Best Landscaping’ at the Leeds Architecture Awards (www.leedsarchitectureawards.co.uk) last week.

The Awards are organised by Leeds City Council in association with the Leeds Property Forum and are designed to bring together the property, regeneration, development and architecture communities in Leeds, to promote and celebrate design excellence in the built environment.

A gala award dinner was attended by the team responsible for the Crypt’s new building and the special guests were ex-service users of the Crypt’s social enterprise, Nurture Horticulture.

Nurture Horticulture encourages residents to learn horticulture skills. The residents grow vegetables and plants in the garden and also work on an allotment in the city. A number have achieved NVQ certificates in horticulture.

Chris Fields, Crypt CEO, said today: “They [Nurture Horticulture Team] were elated when their name was announced and took great pleasure in stepping onto the stage in front of 300 eminent guests from the world of architecture and design.”

He added: “This is a fantastic award to receive, it’s great that the Nurture Social Enterprise garden maintenance arm is doing such a great job and has been recognized for their hard work and quality workmanship.”
