The hostel on Regent Terrace is located in a quiet residential area of Leeds which provides supported accommodation for 10 men who are dependent on alcohol. For many years, the project has provided outstanding care and assistance to the residents with the aim of encouraging them to gradually cut-down on their alcohol consumption as well as identifying and addressing their needs. The hostel is referred to as a ‘wet’ project where residents are permitted to drink alcohol in the communal areas of the hostel between the hours of 7:30 and 21:30. The house is under the supervision of support workers 24 hours a day with one team member staying over night who is available for any emergencies.
The residents have the privacy of their own bedroom but they share the other facilities that the hostel has to offer such as, the games room, dining area, bathrooms and the T.V. lounge. It also has its own private gardens which are enclosed by high walls for the privacy and security of the residents. Full meals are provided which includes at least one cooked meal each day.
Residents who wish to give up drinking are supported by the care staff and the Leeds detoxification unit. Once a resident has shown they are no longer alcohol dependent, they are encouraged to move to Faith lodge which is an alcohol-free hostel. Residents are urged to assist with daily tasks around the hostel such as, cleaning the bathrooms. Occassionally day trips are arranged by the support workers to local places of interest.
Residents are expected to look after themselves and take care of their own personal needs such as, washing and dressing themselves.
Places cannot be offered to residents who are unable to support themselves. The project considers referrals from men from most backgrounds for example, rough sleepers or other hostels. However, positions cannot be offered to schedule1 offenders or those with a history of violence. Referral forms can be emailed or posted to you. Referrals will be acknowledged within one week of receiving applications and if there is a vacancy then we will offer an assessment immediately, otherwise referrals will be placed on a waiting list. Assessment interviews will be carried out by two staff members and supporting workers from referring agencies will also be present. Decisions will be made on whether a place will be offered within 2-3 days of the assessment. If referrals are successful, a ‘move-in’ date will then be arranged.
