Residents enjoy barbecue turkey

Residents at the Crypt received an unusual Christmas present from Leeds start-up baregrills.co.uk, who busted out the BBQs in a bid to spread some festive cheer.

With jack frost nipping at his toes, baregrills.co.uk founder Tom Stevenson chucked out the chestnuts and opted instead to roast turkeys over his open fire, doling out countless Christmas butties to some of the Crypt's lunchtime regulars.

“If anyone deserves a free turkey butty it’s these guys,” said Tom. “They face a hard winter, and this is something small we can do to help raise their spirits. BBQ’d turkey is absolutely delicious – anyone and everyone should give it a try!”

Martin Patterson, Fund Raising and PR Director here at the Crypt, said "We are delighted that Baregrills have decided to take up this tremendous challenge at St George's Crypt, which has been providing support for homeless people for 80 years. Innovation has always been a hallmark of our work, and we wish Tom and his team every success. Our clients really enjoyed tucking into the barbecued turkeys.”

Baregrills.co.uk are currently taking part in the Alibaba.com Global Startup Challenge competition. To vote for Tom visit http://www.globalstartupchallenge.com/tom.php
